Finding Your Rhythm Again

Sometimes the most healing thing we can do is simply be still.

There is something about the ocean that grounds me.

The rush of the waves, the sunlight dancing across the water, the smell of the salty breeze, the faint taste of salt on my lips.

No conversations. No demands. No competing sounds.

Just the ocean, the breeze, and the warmth of the sun against my skin.

Walking along the shoreline, I notice the smallest details. The colors of the clay beneath my feet, rich reds, yellows, brilliant whites, some shimmering with tiny metallic specks.

Scattered along the beach are fish head skeletons, crab shells, and broken seashells, their once-sharp edges softened by the endless movement of the tides.

And I wonder, aren’t we a little like that, too?

Life shapes us. Experiences change us. Some seasons leave us feeling battered, while others gently soften the places where we’ve held tension for far too long.

Standing here, surrounded by the vastness of the ocean, I feel grounded.

My breathing begins to follow the cadence of the waves.

The water rolls in. I breathe in.

The water retreats. I breathe out.

My footsteps slow. My shoulders soften. My thoughts quiet.

There is nowhere I need to be. Nothing I need to accomplish. No one needing anything from me in this moment.

Just the freedom to be.

And somewhere in that stillness, something begins to shift.

I feel replenished. Renewed. Whole.

Grounding brings us back to the present moment. Restoration happens when we give ourselves permission to remain there.

How often do we finally find a moment of peace, only to fill it with something else? Planning, worrying, reaching for our phones, thinking about what comes next.

Have we forgotten how to simply receive the gift of stillness?

I’m reminded of Psalm 46:10:

“Be still, and know that I am God.”

Standing before something so vast and powerful, I’m reminded how little I actually control.

The waves have their rhythm. The tides come and go. The shoreline continually changes.

And none of it requires anything from me.

Perhaps that’s the invitation God is offering.

To release the need to manage everything. To trust. To surrender. To remember that rest isn’t something we have to earn.

Sometimes restoration isn’t about adding something to our lives. It’s about creating enough space to receive what we need.

A Moment to Reflect

As a coach, I often encourage people to listen to what their bodies are telling them. We recognize stress, tension, and exhaustion, but how often do we recognize what peace feels like?

Consider these questions:

  • Body: What does feeling grounded feel like physically?
  • Heart: What emotions surface when I allow myself to be still?
  • Mind: Can I enjoy a quiet moment without thinking about what’s next?
  • Spirit: What might God be asking me to release so I can receive His peace?

For me, today, it’s the ocean.

The sound of the waves. The warmth of the sun. The salt on my lips.

And the gentle reminder that I don’t always need to do more to feel whole.

Sometimes I simply need to be still long enough to remember that I already am.

Breathe in. Breathe out. Be still. Find your rhythm again.
